With this award he achieves the distinction of becoming the first player ever to win two consecutive UEFA goal of the season award.
Messi's goal against Roma won him his second consecutive goal of the season award. He also won the award last year for his chip shot over Bayern's goalkeeper Manuel neuer after rounding off Boateng. This season against roma he didn't only chip over Roma's goalkeeper but also pulls off a brilliant team move. The goal was itself beautiful as almost the whole team was involved in creating the move for Messi Suarez and Neymar.
